Artist's Comments

This was done for the Livejournal Community FurartXchange2, where I was given a character to draw. This one turned out to be a Linsang for Corvox named Mordeth.

Apparently he is usually a rather naive and innocent character who grew up in the forest and for some reason doesn't remember his childhood. I decided to make him thoughtful, maybe wondering about his past and what it could hold. I just hope I got the character right.

I usually don't do backgrounds, because I don't have the patience enough to do them and they end up a shoddy mess. But with this character, I decided to buck up and put a background in for him. I'm glad I went through the trouble. He turned out really well in my opinion.

Nice work. The character's background and history is very well captured - he looks pensive and lamenting, not suggested only by his finger playing around with the water, but the lazy position of the body. The subtle frown and eyes that almost look hurt make the piece come together and sort of washes over the viewer, passively holding their attention.

Again, a very good piece.

Yay! I'm so impressed with that. Think you'll do backgrounds more often now? I usually skimp out, too, but it's true that they add a lot to pictures.

I'm going to try! It depends a lot on my mood at the time and how I drew the image to begin with. . .

~I thought I was a good artist, and then I became an Art major.

I'm a loser with a Webcomic!

The whole picture is stunning; I really like the softness of the character and his surroundings, especially with the water reflection. I almost wonder what the effect would be if the character didn't have an outline at all. Very beautiful work, especially compared to a section of DevArt that rarely gives a second thought to a full image over just a character stance.

thats so cool i really like the water, looks like it is moving in a still pic... thats not easy as far as i know...
